The Côte de Beaune

Apart from world-famed whites and outstanding reds, this region is full of lesser-known appellations where the enlightened amateur will find excellent value wines in each vintage. We never write often enough that one must be patient with red Burgundies, and this is particularly true of the Côte de Beaune. Unfortunately, recent vintages have been affected by strong hailstorms that hit a large part of the crop. This makes these wines even more precious.

Domaine Francois Carillon: heir to the Domaine Louis Carillon, Francois continues to strive for excellence, while further enhancing the purity of his Puligny-Montrachet wines.

Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey: Pierre-Yves Colin regularly crafts concentrated, exemplary wines that taste as good young as old. These have become references in Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet and Meursault.

Domaine Comte Armand: this institution has a monopoly on Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux. The wines produced here are distinguished by their righteousness, power and complexity.

Domaine des Comtes Lafon: for generations, the vines here are grown carefully. Dominique Lafon and his team reveal the different terroirs of Meursault with a goldsmith’s precision.

Domaine Michel et Joanna Ecard: Michel grows the best terroirs of Savigny-les-Beaune with a unique style that values fruity character and drinking pleasure. Another view of Burgundy.

Domaine Hubert Lamy: wizard of Saint-Aubin, Olivier Lamy produces handcrafted wines of very high level, which often overshadow their prestigious neighbors.

Domaine Vincent Leflaive: pioneer of biodynamics in Burgundy, the winery produces alive and vibrant Chardonnays, which, if properly cellared, are among the world’s finest white wines.

Maison and Domaine Leroy: Lalou Bize-Leroy has set the bar very high in terms of vine-growing methods. Her philosophy and accuracy are acclaimed worldwide.

Domaine Roulot: the quest for finesse and balance always strikes when tasting Roulot’s wines. The range of this exclusive address has an unrivaled regularity.

Maison Etienne Sauzet: this estate with a glorious past continues to produce fine and concentrated Puligny-Montrachet. Wines made here often reach  the very best of their terroir.
