The Côte de Nuits
This thin strip of hillside, 20 kilometers long, comprises more great red wines than any other region in the world. Fans and villagers often argue about which village produced the best wines on a specific vintage, but each amateur can surely celebrate the existence of great diversity in such a small region.
Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux: year after year, the Lachaux family produces modern wines of very high-level that provide as great emotions as the superb terroirs from which they are issued.
Domaine Philippe & Yann Charlopin: having started small, Philippe Charlopin has built up an estate that now offers prestigious appellations. With his son Yvan, the focus is kept on plenitude and pleasure.
Domaine Dujac: a precursor in whole harvest winemaking, the Seysses family produces unique wines. Complex and straight, with unmatched finesse, time always does them justice.
Geantet-Pansiot: the pleasure of a deep and racy fruit characterizes Geantet’s production, which has contributed to a new style of red Burgundies in the 1990s.
Domaine Robert Groffier: sensual, silky, sometimes baroque, Nicolas Groffier’s wines have a character of their own. The extensive range includes the famous Chambolle “Les Amoureuses”.
Domaine Anne Gros: led masterfully by Anne Gros, this small domaine regularly commits wines of fantastic refinement and freshness, which should be assessed at full maturity.
Domaine des Lambrays: in the heart of Morey-Saint-Denis, the Clos des Lambrays is the largest Grand Cru monopoly in Burgundy. Back at the top, it embodies an understated style of classic Pinot Noir.
Maison and Domaine Leroy: Lalou Bize-Leroy has set the bar very high in terms of vine-growing methods. Her philosophy and accuracy are acclaimed worldwide.
Domaine Hubert Lignier: after overcoming obstacles, Hubert and Laurent Lignier are back at the forefront with wines that show unique texture and minerality.
Domaine Meo-Camuzet: if the collection of terroirs is quite remarkable here, it is above all the talent of Jean-Nicolas Meo’s team that allows the domaine to consistently reach the top.
Domaines Mugneret-Gibourg : the Mugneret sisters produce, with discretion and talent, Vosnes and Nuits of extraordinary power and elegance.
Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier: at the castle of Chambolle, Frédéric Mugnier has matched his neighbors’ quality and continues to work towards perfection. Harmony and precision are key words here.
Domaine Ponsot: since 1872, this domaine has always been distinctive. Laurent Ponsot uses his talent and ideas to the service of one simple ambition: to produce the best red wines of Burgundy.
Domaine de la Romanee-Conti: a mythical name for fine wine lovers, the domaine is the heir to the most valuable vineyards of Vosne and embodies a millennial cultural tradition.
Domaine Emmanuel Rouget: now led with Emmanuel’s sons Guillaume and Nicolas, the domaine is known to make the most of its exceptional terroirs, in the wake of Henri Jayer.
Domaine Georges Roumier: quality has never been higher in this acclaimed estate. Christophe Roumier continues to craft most impressive wines with humility, rigor and expertise.
Domaine Jean Tardy et Fils: Guillaume Tardy’s small production is gaining more and more attention. The wines, between tradition and modernity, age gracefully.
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue: impervious to trends, this old domaine of Chambolle commits wonderful classic treasures : an ode to the elegance of Pinot Noir.
